Congrats to all —— we did it all without messing up the St. George City precious Grass. Dang, we are gooooood. We didn’t even have to cone off one street. We must be some kind of heroes or something.

All three Southern Utah events were a hit today…..thank you to all those who helped organize, coordinate, help with, and participate in.

All kinds of great things happened this month and more to come in April and May in the way of Car Shows – One more thing left for March   →   Hot Rod Hangout

Warmer, Sunny Days Bring Out the Masses

Hot Rod Hangout at Ricardo’s on Wednesday was jammed full of car friends…..great crowd, everyone laughing a lot, and visiting was the name of the game until walking out after breakfast to check out about 30 nice cars. By 9 AM already about 16 people had ordered and by 9:30 extra tables and chairs being shuffled about. What a fantastic bunch of people.

Iceberg 3-19-16 Always a good time and packed house Show & Shine at 200 East Main Iceberg Drive-Inn, St. George – 5 PM – 7 PM Saturday with everyone welcome. This is one of the longest running and most popular ongoing events in the region. Sponsored by the Desert Rodders of Southern Utah

For those of you cruising to Las Vegas Speedway for the Muscle Cars at The Strip please drive safe & have lots of fun.

What a Weekend it Was – And Will Be Again –

I have been around a while and have never seen such a huge turnout at the Ridgetop Racing Complex for the Blackrock Motorsports Sponsored Drag Races Saturday and Sunday – There was a line like I have not seen around here. A nice group of volunteers from Car Guys Care put up the protective fencing, cleaned tumbleweeds off the City property, got all the outhouses located properly, and helped with the other general setup. Really TOO BAD this race was the end of the road for that event. As usual, progress in our City of St. George is on the move as long as it doesn’t include anything regarding classic cars, hot rods, car shows, or related auto events. We can build 40 gazillion miles of walking trails we all love, but be sure NOT to park a classic car around here near anything to do with the City. Heaven FORBID!!!!!!!

The turnout at Papa Gus’s BBQ Grand Opening Car Show in Leeds was so much larger than anyone ever expected it blew everyone away. Gus (Gustavo Flores) told us around 3 PM he had turned out 800 meals already that day. The food was good (free to car show participants), and a lot of us will be looking forward to cruising up there soon for breakfast, but I think we may hold off until the crowds die down a bit.

NEVER FEAR –

If you miss anything around these DesertCruzin parts just wait a minute (kind of like the weather) and there will be more stuff happening than you can shake a stick at….Hey, just get a bigger stick. City Fathers can just relax because all of these events are on private property.

Wednesday – Hot Rod Hangout at Ricardo’s on South Bluff at 9 AM

Friday Through Sunday – MATS Flyer 3-18-16 (MATS) Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Saturday – Iceberg 3-19-16 Sponsored by The Desert Rodders of Southern Utah and Iceberg Drive-Inn

Mega Car Show Week Ahead

In the region, it looks like the “Car Stars” are all lining up for a huge week ahead for all car enthusiasts. We are finally getting some much needed rain this morning (Sunday about 5 AM) as I am sitting here because I’m too darn old to sleep. It looks like a hit and miss rain will be around for a couple of days then clearing until a slight chance come Saturday. I say slight chance because the forecast says 20% chance of rain but that usually happens in the mountains or closer to the Ariz. Strip (of course now that I mention that it will probably dump 2″ in downtown St. George)….Dream on.

By the way, Car Guys Care Cars & Coffee was packed with some amazing cars and great friends……Couldn’t have been any better.

This is a taste of what’s up, but for the longer list visit the Car Show page and check the vents and flyers:

  • Wednesday looks like perfect weather for another Hot Rod Hangout at Ricardo’s at 9:00 (trouble is about all who show up can’t tell time, so come whenever)
  • Saturday early at the Drags Sat & Sun (I can never figure out the exact times for events)
  • Saturday 9:30 AM starts out with breakfast at Zion Harley with the Vietnam Vets and this week they are doing Breakfast 9:30 and lunch at 11 AM until 1 PM
  • Saturday FREE FOOD/FREE FOOD/FREE FOOD at Papa Gus BBQ Grill in Leeds at the Grand Opening Car Show. Anyone interested we can depart Zion Harley about 1 and cruise up together. Car Show actually starts at 10 AM – 5 PM.
  • Saturday Rebels with a Cause Cruise-In at Ricardo’s 1110 South Bluff in St. George 4 PM – 6 PM with some amazing food specials offered.
  • Sunday Drags at the Ridgetop Complex finish up and could possibly be the final drags ever there…..Would it ever be nice if our City of St. George treated car enthusiast the same way they treat developers and builders when it comes to cooperation. It seems like the City Council wants to get stuff going to do more and more but the bureaucrats in charge of events, applications, paperwork, and goobly-goop throw every negative curve and floater they can dream up. Remember the days when we had car shows on Main Street? Was that great or what? An outfit can come here, build about 38,000,000,000 homes or box stores, but whatever you do don’t let a classic car park on City grass or a City Hollowed Ground Street or Property……Nearly every town in America has a Car Show with City cooperation but us…..”whine, snivel, shucks, golly-darn”, can you hear the tears drop. How great it would be to make the City of St. George in charge of ISIS getting an operating license to operate around the world….we would never hear of them again. The permit would be so messed up ISIS would be out of business.

Cars & Coffee 10 AM – Maybe????

It looks like the chance of rain will come Sunday and leave the Perks/Car Guys Care Cars & Coffee great weather as usual.

Corner of Westridge Dr. & West Sunset Blvd., St. George.

I know, I know…….the flyer and events list says different times. Standard start time has been 9 AM..then, changed to 9:30 year around, but Shane thought it may be a tad chilly and decided to make it 10 AM. No worries just be sure to show up whenever sounds good.

Holy Carbonzalocious – Zion Cruise Magnificent

From Desert Rodders, Mustang Club, Corvette Club, Rods and Rebels, Independents, VW Republic, Day Trippers, Porsche Club, Mopar Group, and maybe a total of 35 cars…..MMMMMM – About as mixed (or mixed up) group of car lovers hit the road this morning for a prompt 10 AM shove off and perfect cruise through the back roads of Hurricane and up to a great little picnic spot in Zion. After lunch some departed the group for parts unknown, some hit the road back to The Narrows, and some continued over to Carmel Junction for pie & ice cream, Carmel Mountain Sundaes, or whatever. No one cared who did what and I think it was a perfect (lucky weather) day.

In the Park we spotted some fat, fat turkeys (not us), lots of sheep (coming & going both directions), deer, elk, buffalo, bison, eagles, hawks, finches, blue birds, two lizzards….you get the gist.

Thanks to Paul & Sara Winn for the plan, hospitality as cruise leaders, and for the sugar rush of the cookies and cream puffs. One more cruise like this one and the National Diabetic Foundation will put a hit out on all of us.   →   Photos Click Here
