Car Show, Poker Run, Drags, Cruise-In, & Show & Shine Starting TODAY!

Outstanding turnout at Hangout on Wednesday in St. George. Weather was nice and several new attendees stopped by along with a bunch of the regulars….LOTS of spectators this time since the time of year is here for people getting out and about to enjoy this beautiful area we “Hangout” in. We noticed quite a few people stopped by to look at the cars & ended up having breakfast…GREAT JOB to all the staff at Ricardo’s for getting about 45 breakfasts out all in a matter of a very short time.

Food Truck Friday is Cancelled

  • Friday – A real nice way to spend your lunchtime on Friday is to head on over to the east side of I-15 just off Riverside Dr. and take part in Findlay’s Food Truck Friday which probably will only last the rest of this month and maybe part of June or until it gets too darn hot. There is usually parking for 10-15 Collector Cars & many, many food truck choices (about 7) to choose from. Hit it anytime between 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM with or without your Collectormobile. Weather permitting!

→    Food Truck Friday 5-15-15

  • Friday – The Western Sky Aviation Warbirds “Hanger Dance” and Armed Forces Celebration is Friday evening at the St. George Airport and a real hoot for the over-the-hill-gang, but is really fun for the younger set as well with dress-ups in the 1940’s style and the period correct music. Doors open at 6:45 PM and the festivities begin at 7:00 PM with Swing Dance Lessons and the live Swing Band starting at 8 PM – Classic Planes and Classic Cars.

→    Corvette Fundraiser Poker Run

→    Hanger Dance 5-15-15

  • Saturday – Car Show at the St. George Airport (New one) as a continuation of Armed Forced Celebration from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. This car show was really nice last year as fellow car enthusiast Ray Stiens organized it. Due to some health issues Ray has not been able to do it this year, but we totally expect it will be as great as ever and hope to see Ray & Anita out there enjoying the day.

→    Airport Car Show 5-16-15

  • Show & Shine at the Ridgetop Raceway 9 AM – 2 PM $5.00 per person – Enter with Show & Shine Vehicles off Donlee Dr. NOT Airport Drive side…….Since this is a fundraiser the Lion’s Club requests no outside food so they can raise funds by selling drinks & hot dogs (maybe hamburgers?)

→    Show & Shine Drags 5-16-15

Looking Pretty Darn Good!!!!

Great week ahead with some cooling down over the weekend, but currently looking like the chance of rain has gone down considerably for Saturday. The best day coming down the pike is Wednesday in the morning at Hot Rod Hangout at Ricardo’s around 9:00 or 9:30….they are predicting our typical desert region spring wind, but that should mainly be in the afternoon. I hate the wind but I know it is nature’s way of propagating plants by spreading the freshly blooming seeds, and man does it ever work on weeds. probably going to be blowing pretty good the next several days and bring some rain in on Friday.

  • Wednesday – Let’s shoot for a nice big turnout this time at Hangout.Typical turnout is about 35…we have had as low as 20 (rainy day) and as many as 65 since moving to Ricardo’s from Jazzy’s since the parking lot is so much better. If my memory serves me (not usually) that was about a year and a half ago….maybe a little longer.

This SURELY Could NOT be US!!

OLD AGE

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN GUILTY OF LOOKING AT OTHERS YOUR OWN AGE AND THINKING, “SURELY I CAN’T LOOK THAT OLD.*

*WELL . . .YOU’LL LOVE THIS ONE.

*MY NAME IS ALICE, AND I WAS SITTING IN THE WAITING ROOM FOR MY FIRST  APPOINTMENT WITH A NEW DENTIST. I NOTICED HIS DDS DIPLOMA ON THE WALL,  WHICH BORE HIS FULL NAME.

SUDDENLY, I REMEMBERED A TALL, HANDSOME, DARK-HAIRED BOY WITH THE SAME  NAME HAD BEEN IN MY HIGH SCHOOL CLASS SOME 45-ODD YEARS AGO.  COULD HE BE THE SAME GUY THAT I HAD A SECRET CRUSH ON, WAY BACK THEN?

UPON SEEING HIM, HOWEVER, I QUICKLY DISCARDED ANY SUCH THOUGHT.

THIS BALDING, GRAY-HAIRED MAN WITH THE DEEPLY LINED FACE WAS WAY TOO OLD  TO HAVE BEEN MY CLASSMATE.  AFTER HE EXAMINED MY TEETH, I ASKED HIM IF HE HAD ATTENDED MORGAN PARK HIGH SCHOOL .

YES. YES, I DID. I’M A MUSTANG,’ HE GLEAMED WITH PRIDE.

WHEN DID YOU GRADUATE?’ I ASKED.  HE ANSWERED,’IN 1967. WHY DO YOU ASK?’

YOU WERE IN MY CLASS!’, I EXCLAIMED.

HE LOOKED AT ME CLOSELY.

THEN, THAT UGLY,

OLD,

BALD,

WRINKLED-FACED,

FAT-ASSED,

GRAY-HAIRED,

DECREPIT,

SON-OF-A-BITCH,

ASKED…

“WHAT DID YOU TEACH??”

Never Buy a Robot

Before heading over to Ricardo’s this evening (anytime after 5 → Rebels With a Cause 2nd Sat ) be sure to read this story below for a nice little chuckle,

  images

The Robot

A father buys a lie detector robot that slaps people when they lie.
He decides to test it out at dinner one night.

The father asks his son what he did that afternoon.

The son says, “I did some schoolwork.”
The robot slaps the son.
The son says, “Ok, Ok. I was at a friend’s house watching movies.”

Dad asks, “What movie did you watch?”

Son says, “Toy Story.”
The robot slaps the son.
Son says, “Ok, Ok, we were watching porn.”

Dad says, “What?”  At your age I didn’t even know what porn was.”
The robot slaps the father.

Mom laughs and says, “Well, he certainly is your son.”
The robot slaps the mother.

Robot for sale……Cheap!

Raining at the Moment in the Entire Area

Checking the Vortex 5 app on my trusty, handy-dandy iPad shows a huge cell over this St. George area at present with snow on Pine Mountain, but some clearer skies should be seen within a couple of hours.

I have heard nothing regarding the Ivins Show changing their start time to a little later in the day, but then I don’t think I would hear from them. At any rate, it is raining a pretty good clip this minute, 0745, near the “D”. One thing about this region for sure is that it could be pouring in downtown Santa Clara and out in Ivins it could be blue skies with birds chirping (oops, I mean 750 x 16’s chirping).

Car Shows of ALL Types & Future

We just received a call from Joe Reffner of the Boulder City Cruisin Association regarding the Ely, NV Car Show which is back on for August 14th & 15th – The host hotel will be the Prospect Hotel & Casino & use code #ERR15. In past years this has been a real nice show and very well attended by hot rodders from this region….mark it on your calendars early.

Forgotten saying of the day for the older set, “A stitch in time saves nine.” Or, how about, “Groovy, man!”

TODAY – That stuff falling out of the sky is not Granny Goose shedding a tear…It must be the Rain Gods!

Saturday
