This past weekend was an amazingly well put together and promoted Car & Truck Show at the Eureka Casino & Hotel in Mesquite, NV – 113 officially registered vehicles this year with many awards and a grand prize award going to Dick Krupa’s 1951 Studebaker Custom which Dick spent over 8 years restoring and customizing…..It is doubtful anyone thought it deserved anything less than “Best of Show”

We should have a photo posted very soon

Nice Car & Truck Show Eureka in Mesquite

In the Southwest Desert Region it is always nice to find some shady parking. Have you ever thought how nice it would be to be able to find some shade at Albertson’s, Smith’s, Lin’s, Wal-Mart or Target??????? Well, it’s kind of the same deal at summer months car shows, show & shines, Cruise-Ins, or whatever else there is with collector car events.

HERE’S YOUR CHANCE to “SHOW IN THE SHADE” in Mesquite Friday, Saturday, & Sunday at the Eureka in Mesquite, NV.   →    BCCA Upcoming Shows The BCCA is for the Boulder City Cruisin Association

New GAS Pumps in Town

Even we “Old Duffers” have to admit the times they are a changin’ and there really isn’t any such thing as “the good old days” anymore. It is historically thought by many that the following three groups are the most resistant to change…..Law enforcement, teachers, and hot rodders. Just a couple of examples in hot rodding that may make a little sense:

  • When the change was started on automobile paint base products most of us thought it was dumber than heck
  • Fiberglas hot rod bodies are now great
  • Fuel injected oldies are getting very popular
  • Electric cars that are cool

We must admit the jury is still out on the above but gaining ground on all fronts. I am one who really appreciates great marketing ideas and promotions. I have no idea if these are free, you have to go into Starbucks and get authorization, or just what the deal is on these. However, can you imagine if Starbucks did these at everyone of their locations they have the room to do it how much extra business they would get…Free Wi-Fi, free charging stations, great coffee, great snacks (food at some locations)…….MMMMMM! Also, they are unlike, say, Camille’s on St. George Blvd. who usually makes you feel like you need to get out when you are finished with meal…..you can actually hangout there.

POINT to be made – a few days ago we were going to breakfast at The Egg & I behind one of the Starbucks in St. George and noticed some underground utility work going on near the complex entryway. Neither of us had any idea what was taking place there. This morning we went back to have a bite, and Holy Moly look what we found ↓ Of, course, the name “Tesla” on these is just the brand name of the charging stations but may be used to charge any standard electric vehicle. You may click on any photo to enlarge…YIKES!!!!!

Iceberg Car Show & Shine

Thanks to the great people at Iceberg Drive Inn and the tenacity of the Desert Rodders of Southern Utah the Cruise-In & Show & Shine event is one many of the area collector car enthusiasts look forward to each month. Kudos to all for supporting those who work hard to organize these events……often they are criticized other than supported. Reg Brown (’69 Mach I – Charcoal) told me this morning, “There are three kinds of people – those who see something is going on, those who do something about it, and those who just stand there and say, ‘Is there something going on?'” Too true!

Come on out and be supportive of either Iceberg → Iceberg 8-16-14 or the Cruise-In/Ice Cream Social held each week in Cedar City and hosted by James & Teresa Quigley of the Iron County Rodders – August 16th – Saturday – Recurring Weekly Event – Saturday Night Fix – Iron County Rodders’ version of the weekly Hot Rod Hangout in Cedar City – Everyone is invited to attend – Every Saturday At 6:00 pm – Meet at The Fix Ice Cream Treatery located at 1760 North Main Street, Cedar City

By the way, if you try to get a room at the Eureka for the upcoming Labor Day Car Show I think it is best to call them and let them know you are showing a car and you get a room and a rate of about $49 bucks a night. I tried to get a room online and they said “SOLD OUT” for those dates I wanted – August 29th & 30th. You can register for the show by printing this off and signing up and get a chance to win the new enclosed car hauler  →   BCCA Upcoming Shows

Nice Turnout at Tuacahn Car Show & Sale

It turned out to be a great morning at Tuacahn’s Saturday Market Car Show & Shine hosted by the Desert Rodders of Southern Utah with about 45 Hot Rods, Classics, and Special Interest Vehicles. Of course, the setting can’t be topped out there, and the weather was very cooperative even though it began heating up by about 10:30 with our typical Southern Utah August weather…….no matter! All well.
