To All,

Attached is the first part of the June newsletter. Due to the amount of pictures I’ve split this month’s newsletter into two parts. The first part covers our annual charity car show held in May. The second part will be coming out shortly with other info.

Dixie Sunset Plaza Car Show Outstanding

Even though it was not what you may call a real cars show it had that feel to it. There were just the right amount of cars and great people out on this Thursday evening. The weather cooperated with a nice little breeze and 88 degrees which is almost parka weather for us here at the end off June. The Car Guys Care coordinated effort will continue to grow and provide another great venue for Collector Car enthusiasts of all types.

Sandwiched between Dubs BBQ and Hungry Howie’s Pizza is the new Taco Shop with a $2 menu which turned out to be pretty good. All evening there were a nice line of spectators coming through to view the cars and grab a pizza or ribs to go. I don’t know what could have made things better (well, maybe another couple dozen cars).

The sun was at an angle making photographing a little difficult, but here is kind of what was happening….BELOW  ↓

Robert & Renon’s “T”-Bucket is always sharp….they also brought out a grandson who thought a late model Mustang was the hit of the show. In the photos are Russ & Gheri Boyce’s Sharper-than-Sharp ’53 Fat Fender Ford and Patrick & Annabel Curtis’s ’50 Ford.

IMG_2657 IMG_2658

Bob & Sherri Anderson brought out their International favorite standing low and lookin’ good, and the next one show a late model Z06 next to Jim’s decked out Chevy.

IMG_2659 IMG_2662

Larry & Cheryl Barnett’s ’48 Convertible sure looks good and parked next to Jim and Patty Crawford’s Porche is always a good spot to be. A Couple of the greatest Mustangs around tucked behind Jim’s Porche and next to Bruce & Nancy Carlton’s Falcon Convertible just this side of Ken & Linda Kay’s VW Double Cab

IMG_2663 IMG_2664

On the left is Julian LeBlanc’s Camaro & hidden behind that is Johnny & Rose Balderrama ’09 Mustang. Barely able to see (click on the photo to enlarge it) is the ’37 Plymouth brought out by Vince & Lana Reece….Lana’s sister Olga (first time ever out of Russia) is visiting from Russia and was able to come out and share in the fun. In Russia there isn’t the number of heavy metal vehicle there, as most are very tiny and unreliable.

All in all, a great Cruise-In, Show and Shine, mini Car Show, and we are positive next month will even be better (However, only a fool would expect us to be so lucky witth the temperature next time.

Big Week Ahead for Car Shows in the Desert

This is another big week for Collector Car Lovers…..We get feedback all the time and we hear both ends of the spectrum….some complain there is too much happening and others are wanting more or something different. it seems like the ones who think there is too much going on don’t come out very often anyway, and those who want something different are reluctant to step up to the plate and plan, coordinate, and promote what they think would make them happy. Take the word of those who are the ones who plan the big stuff for all of us to enjoy that it is not easy or without stress and anxiety. The great thing about this site is DesertCruzin supports, and will help promote, anything car related that makes good sense. Just take part in what you wish and miss what you wish…..no biggie!!!!!

Check out the next few days

ICEBERG Cruise-In Saturday 7 PM

Nothing like a great little Cruise-In/Show & Shine to top off a Summer Saturday especially on this first day of Summer 2014 and the heat should reflect just that. Iceberg Drive-Inn has lots of indoor cool seating to order food or just sit around with fellow car enthusiasts and chat. Even if you don’t bring a collector car or special interest carr out be sur eto stop by and see the ones there. Everyone is always welcome at this 10 year old event. Even though the temperature should reflect a typical Southern Utah Summer afternoon at about 102 degrees the 16 mph breeze and late in the day time should make it more than tolerable for us desert rats.

Just think about having one of these when the heat meets the street  ↓

Great Morning for Mini Car Show

Hot Rod Hangout at Ricardo’s:

39 Collector Car enthusiasts showed up on this nice, cool morning to eat, chat, and check out cars. Rick Leonis showed up with the recently restored & registered ’66 Mustang looking pretty dang good. I think everyone enjoyed Ricardo’s hospitality and great Car Show venue. If anyone there go photos of the events, please forward them to ken84770@gmail.com

Iceberg Show & Shine/Cruise-In & Car Show (no registration & no awards – Just Cool!):

Let’s all get out and support the Cruise-In at Iceberg Drive Inn at 200 East St. George Blvd. Saturday evening 7 PM – 9 PM sponsored by Iceberg and organized by the Desert Rodders of Southern Utah……this has been going on for about 10 years now and is open to anyone and everyone….Come on out and join in the fuel, food, & fun

Cool Day for Hangout at Ricardo’s

With the cooler forecasted weather there should be a very good turnout in the morning at Hot Rod Hangout at Ricardo’s. Last Wednesday was like a true Car Show with the folks from Nevada Rides joining in the fun. It is a good time for all with great parking and great food. Where else can you get a huge made to order breakfast for about 4 bucks with a free drink….doesn’t get much better than that. The people who take care of the group at Ricardo’s are friendly, efficient, and professional (Man, they work hard). Folks….this is not a club specific Cruise-In!!!!!! Most Wednesdays there are people from at least 5 local clubs and sometimes more than that…ALL Welcome. Independants, groups, out of towners, and everyone else.

Ricardo’s Wednesdays Hangout 9 AM

If 9 AM is too early for you then come at 10 or 10:30….any time is good.

Be sure to get the cars ready for Iceberg Saturday at 7 PM

Be sure to take note of the “Detailing Tip of the Month” provided by Paul Winn of Winn’s Restorations:

Hey Boys and Girls, here’s a easy way to get all those messy, Ugly bug guts off your pretty car or truck or motorcycle’s paint, chrome, or glass! The next time your washing it, first wet down the area with the bugs, then take a New Dryer Sheet, dip it in your water bucket, give it a light squeeze and lightly rub it across any parts of your vehicle having those bugs spattered on to it and “presto” they will start coming off like magic. Just remember to rinse and wash the area again before drying. Works like a champ so that you don’t have to use those petroleum base bug cleaners on your paint job. Although the paint will feel smooth, I would still recomend a fresh coat of wax where you removed the bugs, just to be safe. Well that’s the Tip of the month folks! Always here to help, call me anytime

Kanab Car Show

Without question the very best thing to happen at the Car Show in Kanab was the perfect weather….that is right after the great people, great cars, and smiles over the top. I didn’t know a lot of the award winners, but some of them were certainly worth the recognition, and I am sorry to say some of the awards were ridiculous, but a great show it was…..in my mind the very top award was the “People’s Choice” award going to a Nash Wagon which was built and heavily modified by some High School students from Las Vegas. How cool is that to give the kids the recognition they deserve. We need more young people in the hobby of Collector Cars because without them who will be around to by all these things when our generation (60-80 Years) keel over (probably sooner rather than later).

I didn’t get real good shots of all the show winners, but check some of these out…….
