Car Shows and More in Next Week

No rest for the weary this time of year. Not only is the next week jammed with great Car Shows, Cruise-Ins, and Cars & Coffee there are peripherals to think about:

  • Good People Doing Good Things
  • Great Collector Car Spotting and Perusing
  • Oops! I almost forgot to mention all the good food
  • Wednesday 10 AM – Hot Rod Hangout at Ricardo’s
  • Friday 3 PM – Cruise-In at Mondo Forcella Gourmet Food Truck in La Verkin
  • Friday & Saturday – Lake Powell Cruisers BIG Car Show and Cruise In at Page, AZ
  • Saturday 10 AM – Cars and Coffee at Perks on Sunset presented by Car Guys Care (we assume that means Gals too)

Rain Rain Go Away

Living in Southern Utah and hoping for no rain is kind of dumb, but it seems like everytime Blackrock Motorsports plans to hold the Drag Races at the Hilltop Raceway it RAINS!!!!!!! I am all for the rain but how about late on Sunday or Monday? That will work for me.

Here’s the weekend at a glance:

→     Apr 26 Race Poster – The Drag Races are ON!!!!! If you have connections ask for SUN!

→     Zion Harley Car & Bike Show 4-26-14  –  I just heard the fundraiser for Josh is on as planned come rain or shine!

→     Freddy’s 4-26-14  –  Trippin’ at Freddy’s is always a great get together/Car Show/Cruise-In from 6 PM – 9 PM

→     Pahrump 4-26-14  –  If you are brave enough to chance the rain you may want to head SOUTH!

Car Show Stuff Coming Soon

There are so many things happening around the desert these days I defy anyone to attempt keeping track of it all…..Maybe I ain’t got enough brains to not give it a go

              Car Show Flyers April 2014

Car Show Flyers May 2014 Updated 4-22-14

One thing we are going to do is try a couple of test things to see what works and what won’t work to replace the Cruise-In at Sunset Corner we used to hold each second Friday evening. The first one we will try out is Friday, May 16th 6 PM – 8 PM in the parking lot in front of Albertson’s at Sunset Blvd. & Dixie Dr……Check this out  →   Friday Night Cruise    Albertson’s

We can try the parking lot over by Kohl’s/Red Robin/Pepper’s/Del Taco/In-N-Out if we can get permission to use the place. We can do that in June and maybe try a Saturday evening instead of Friday…….A couple of nice things about Albertson’s is they really want us there, shaded seating available and lots of food choices. Being welcome has not always been something we have experienced. I know nothing of running a restaurant, but I would sure think having in the neighborhood of 45 classic/special interest cars show up would help me out. Not only do most cars have two occupants but there are lots of lookers.

Another BIG Car Show Week

It seems like if you are just sitting around doing nothing it is totally by choice. There is so much going on around here at times it even seems like “Car Stuff Overload.” Of course, that would be for normal people….NOT me (or, is it not I).

By the way, be sure to get registered for the Tuacahn Car Show being held on May 10th Sponsored by The Desert Rodders of Southern Utah……the entry form is on this site…just go to the top menu bar to “Tuacahn” and you can print it off right there. All of the information of where to mail it is on the form.

Try these on for size:

  • Wednesday 10:00 AM – Hot Rod Hangout at Ricardo’s
  • Thursday 6:oo PM – Car Guys Care Cruzin at Buca di Beppo
  • Friday – Camaro Club Meets Paradise Bakery
  • Saturday 8:00 AM – Drags at Ridge Top Raceway
  • Sunday grudge matches at the raceway

Easter Weekend and BIG Car Show

There are so many things going on in the area this Holiday Weekend it is unbelievable, but we all have our likes and dislikes of what to take advantage of. If you are reading this you are probably thinking Hurricane Rotary Easter Car Show, and that woud be a good thought. This is one of the four largest shows in the entire region…..I think they are these:

  • Mesquite
  • Hurricane
  • Tuacahn
  • Tink’s

None are better than the other and all are totally different. We have three of them coming up in the next little bit with Tink’s being that final one of these four for the year.

I have a few new things posted – Under Memory Lane and then Trivia I have some of Hal Larsen’s dad’s car Hal just forwarded to us. Also, the Collector Car Roster has been updated (usually everyday) and is growing leaps and bounds. And, this very amaturish video from Hangout Wednesday I am practicing with…Please give me time and I can improve on my shaky videos.

Remember I will no longer be supportive, or part of, Cruise-In at Sunset Corner which has normally been held on the second Friday evening of each month……the sponsors do not care, and a couple of the restaurants there really wish we would just fade off into the “sunset” (no pun) so we will. Here are three suggestions I have had about specific changes:

  • Albertson’s Parking lot (they are up for it) on Sunset & Dixie Dr.
  • Kohl’s Parking lot right behind Pepper’s
  • One suggestion to hold it on Saturday instead of Friday

At Albertson’s there is lots of parking and several food choices in the immediate area – Starbuck’s (inside Albertson’s), Little Caesar’s, Subway, McDonald’s, and the Deli in Albertson’s. This area is very busy on Friday evenings and we should get a lot of exposure.

Behind Pepper’s (I have not spoken with property managers yet) There is a nice, large area for parking and the food choices right there include Pepper’s Mexican Restaurant, Red Robin, In-N-Out, Del Taco.

We can switch the whole thing to Friday if that is what most of you wish to do. Please post replies to this link if you have suggestions (within reason, and no it won’t fit there). We have a little time because there won’t be one for May due to the Desert Rodder’s Tuacahn Registration and evening cruise to Iceberg on Friday, May 9th I hope all attend.

Hangout Wednesday

This is a copy of the video I shot of Ricardo’s hanging out on Wednesday and the birthday party for Jan and Kathy put on by Paul and Sara

Stop on by Ricardo’s 10:00 AM Wednesday for a mini Car Show with great food and fun. The setting couldn’t be better and with their Hangout Breakfast Special it make eating pleasurable and inexpensive.

Ricardo’s Hangout Wednesdays

By the way the Hurricane Easter Car Show is Saturday…kind of comes under the heading of, “Who Cares?” However, I will admit it will be full of cars and people. I always thought it was like “Door-Ding Central” out there the way they try their best to sandwich the cars close together. I hope this year they will give a little room for safety. You take a great Hot Rod like Harlan Bass’s ’34 Vicky and ding that door pretty good and I think you have about a $15,000 paint job because you aren’t going to match that color. Even if you have some of the original paint over the years with fading makes it a nightmare. Let’s hope no one gets nailed again this year.

BIG Past Week

Holy Moly! The past five days have been over-the-top busy for car buffs in the Southern Utah area with Funeral, Car Shows, Cruise-Ins, Hangout, and extras. If you missed any, or all, of them you have been cheated out of some great times. Of course, one of the problems with mentioning specific people is I have a tendency to forget someone who really deserves to be thanked, but I will give it a little go here….Ron & Sandy Helm for all the work gathering raffle items, Julian for the idea, John & Bennie for running the drawings and selling tickets, Roy for the draws, Don for photos I still don’t have, and all the people helping with the coffee & donuts. I was amazed at how nicely all the residents of the Home were treated by the staff and want to thank them all….both the staff & Vets.

Before I get started on the upcoming Cruise-In tonight, I just want to remind all to check out the “Past Car Shows” tab on the top Menu Bar and go to the “Cruise -Ins/Show & Shines” and then to Hot Rod Hangout and check out the new posting there. Also, if you are listed, or want to be, on the “Collector Car Roster” listed on this site, be sure to let me know and I will add you. If you are already on it or think you may be just Email, text, or call me for the very simple password just about any motorhead can remember.

Also – The Drags are back on….Check out the Flyer  →  Apr 26 Race Poster

Now ! – Hard to beat a $10 discount off of a $20 food order….WowWee!!!!!

This Show & Shine was a group effort by Ken from Findlay, Joe from Buca, Shane from Car Guys Care, and I think I had a little to do with it. This is a non-club specific Cruise-In.
