Ricardo’s Hangout Wednesday 4-2-14

If you haven’t been out to the Wednesday Hangout you are missing a chance to meet and chat with a cool bunch of fellow (and fellowette) collector car enthusiasts. For the past month the group has been numbering about 42 who show up for eating, drinking, and chillin’ with friends. Each week we get a few first timers and before you know it (about 10 seconds) they are just, as big a part of the group as those who regularly attend.

So, come on out for the Mini-Show & Shine and grab some breakfast…..BTW, the menu at Ricardo’s is very large, and the weekly breakfast specials are terrific. Last week a bunch enjoyed the $5.99 Breakfast Burrito (including drink). Quite a few ordered the Senior Breakfast for only $4.99 and Jamie, the Mgr., threw in any regular coffee or soda drink…..NICE! Breakfast for two for under ten smackers. Ricardo’s Mexican Restaurant is located at 1110 South Bluff Street where the old Claim Jumper was next door to Dairy Queen.

It’s nice to have regular thing going on all of the time since actual “Car Shows” are far and few between. In the Southern Utah area we are fortunate to have great weather about eight months out of the year for car related events from Hot Rod Hangout each Wednesday, Cars and Coffee once per month in St George and once per month in Kanab, Iceberg Cruise-In each month, Cruise-In at Sunset Corner each month, Trippin’ at Freddy’s each month and those are just the regular things. There are always 5-6 other things going on every month…..be sure to check the Car Show Events list on the top menu bar.

Marlene and myself (Mark Remington) will be at the meetup location in Hurricane around 7:15am and starting meeting folks. If you have walkie talkies, bring them and we can get a channel that works to keep in contact as we drive since cell phones don’t always work in the area. Don’t forget your camera and fuel up prior to going. Look forward to seeing everyone. Mark

March 29th – Saturday – “Hi all, the local car folks in Kanab have put a drive together for us as a group, to show us around their town and area. They have included a full day of sights from places where many western movie and TV shows were made, and where the stars stayed while there. They will be having their local Cars and Coffee meet when we arrive. Depending on the time, we will all drive to Mt. Carmel Thunderbird Restaurant and do a late lunch, so plan on a full day.  Depart time is around 7:30am I hope everyone can make this event.” Mark

Let’s meet up at Stout Furniture parking lot in Hurricane on Main St., right next to Wendy’s around 7:15 am and depart at 7:30 am. We will be taking 59 to 389 and 89A to Kanab. It’s about 62 miles from Hurricane and the most direct route without fighting the Zion NP traffic. We will pass thru the Park on the way home. Plan on a full day and don’t forget your camera.

Next Up on the Block – Hangout

It’s that time again and the weather is expected to be about as perfect as you can get around here, so let’s all get out there and show our favorite cars (or at least one of them) t Ricardo’s tomorrow at 10:00 AM for a Show & Shine….it’s about as close as you can get to a Car Show without really having one.

Our Most Heartfelt Condolences to Jack & Karen

At a time like there is nothing that can be said other than our hearts and prayers are 100% with you. God Bless Your Family! The loss of a child must be the most painful thing one can imagine.

From Jack & Karen’s (and our) good friend Sharon Cauble – The services for Jack’s Daughter will be Monday, March 24th at Heideman Hughes Mortuary 1037 East 700 South in St. George, UT – 11:30 viewing 1 pm service. She will be buried in Hurricane.

Asking for any friends that would like to coordinate providing food/paper goods/etc. for Karen and Jack’s home after the service would be appreciated. We all want to help in some way, and this is something we can all do.

I would like to coordinate this so we don’t have a lot of the same thing and enough to cover what is needed. Please call me at 435-669-0001 to do so would be great.

SCCA Weekend at the St. George Ridgetop Raceway

Automotive clubs and enthusiasts met for a three day event at the Ridgetop Raceway in St. George. Very few venues offer such a nice setting since it is nearly in the center of town with shopping, hotel, and soon to be restaurant right at its door step.

With the opening of the newly remodeled Inn on The Cliff Hotel and the soon to be opened Cliffside Restaurant there isn’t a lot of reason to not just come to St. George and plan on spending a great weekend getaway while enjoying the Raceway and eating too darn much with views that will knock your socks off.

Sunday was the largest spectator day since Friday and Saturday were time trials and test/practice runs. Please check out this short Sunday morning video  →    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cN4g059R4Fo Right after this video was shot a Red Cobra did a triple spin-out just on the South end of the track and brought a little excitement for the crowd and participants checking the “Race against the clock” event.

For more information on this Utah and Nevada SCCA (Sport Car Club of America) event visit   →   http://www.utahscca.com/

Upcoming events at the Race Track are:

March 19th – 21st – 14th Annual Sky West Airlines “Mini Indy” Go-Cart Races → www.miniindy.org

April 26th – 27th – Blackrock Motorsports Drag Races, Car Show & Honest Johnson’s Swap Meet

Nifty Fifty Still Missing in Action

Hot Rodders all over the country are amazing people. We run across so many great friends at Car Show, here in Southern Utah & St. George, as well as during our travels around checking cars out.

When we heard about our good friends Jim & Cathie Purdy losing their Dodge Truck, Enclosed Trailer, and one of the most fantabulous Chevy’s on the planet our hearts were crushed for them. By now most of you have heard about their rig being stolen from in front of the Hampton Inn in Temecula, CA during the night after Jim & Cathie participating in a Cruise down there. We were please when we heard the Dodge Pick Up was found in Rialto, CA our ears perked up & hopes got greater. The truck sustained a little damage and the winch was adiosed and some lock damage. Still no word on the trailer or the 1930 Fleetline Fastback…..for some real nice photos of the car you can visit the “Memory Lane” section of this site and go to “Private Collections” and then to “Larry & Sandy Taylor” and check out three great Fastbacks. Also, you may note on the slideshow above on this page there it is again……what a great car only outdone by Jim and Cathie themselves…

Paul & Sara Winn had the word out with the CHP, Long Beach Harbor, Chevy Club Website, and more down in that area where they originated….some friends of theirs made the two flyers below…..Help spread the word whenever you are talking to anyone from the Southern CA region.

Another Busy Car Show Weekend in St. George & More

Sunset Corner Flyer 3-14-14  –  Sunset Corner is one of the easiest spots in town to find, park, and eat…..with great spots like Marv’s, Grandma Tobler’s, Pirate’s Cove Pizza, Starbuck’s, Fractured Prune, Panda Express, and more……Findlay Auto of Southern Utah will be out there providing their great music as always.

Moapa Valley Cruise-In 3-15-14  –  Anyone interested in cruising down to this show Saturday there are a couple of choices:

1.    Meet up at the Bloomington Wal-Mart Parking Lot at about 6:45 AM for a 7 AM shove off so ya’ll can take advantage of the FREE breakfast down there. I think Jack & Karen are going down and maybe Ron & Sandy and a few others.

2.    Also, a group will be meeting and departing about 8 AM from the Ivins City Park 100 W Center and will be cruising down via Hwy. 91.

According to the Weather Channel® it should be about 80 for the high there on Saturday with a little breeze……….For any further information give Lois a ring at 702-397-8997 or Teresa at 702-397-6200 – There is no registration fee for taking your car down and apparently no charge to get into the automotive swap meet….AND, of course, FREEEEEEEE Breakfast. For additional Events coming up tomorrow & Saturday be sure to check out www.desertcruzin.com – Cruise-In at Sunset Corner Friday 4 PM – 7 PM and Iceberg on Saturday 5 PM – 7 PM – Hey! That means there is plenty of time to do all three events!!!!!!!!!

Iceberg 3rd Saturday  –  The Desert Rodders of Southern Utah have been hosting this in conjunction with host Jay, owner of the Iceberg, for years and years. This is happening this Saturday from 5 PM – 7 PM and they are asking to not take up parking lot space prior to 4:45 to allow their regular customers a chance to eat and boogie.

Ricardo’s Hangout Wednesdays  –  The last one of these was amazing….check out the posting just below this one for all the scoop. We have only had 4 events ow at Ricardo’s and all had an over-the-top turnout.
